End of the 4th International Congress on Ancient Thermalism in Vichy

From 25 to 28 May 2025, the 4th International Congress on Ancient Thermalism was held in the spa town of Vichy (France).

REsearchers from more than 10 countries participated, including Croatia, Georgia, Bulgaria, Hungary, North Macedonia, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, Austria, and Spain. So it has been an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge and strengthen a network of researchers on thermalism in antiquity, with many projects already underway and others to come.

The organisers would like to thank the Maison des Sciences Humaines de Clermont-Ferrand (Université Clermont Auvergne, CNRS), the Service régional de l’archéologie – DRAC Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid for their support and funding, as well as the Association Villes d’Eaux, the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and the Vichy City Council, for their collaboration in this event, as well as all the technicians and collaborators who participated. Without their fundamental help, the conference would not have been possible.

And, of course, thank you to everyone who participated and accompanied us during these days in Vichy! It has been an incredible few days, learning, getting to know different projects, and above all sharing experiences with a fantastic group of people: ‘the Thermal Family’. Information on the publication of the participating papers will be sent out shortly, and we hope that next year we will have the new volume of this series of conferences, which we hope will have a long future.

See you in 2027 at the 5th Ancient Thermalism Conference, to be held in the spa town of Bansko, Strumica (North Macedonia)!!!

All the best,

Elise, Lise and Silvia
